This program is designed for students who are motivated by applied technology and hands-on construction tasks. The Arts Academy is offering this program in cooperation with the Buffalo Board of Education Career & Technical Education Department and the Department of Special Education. Each applicant must complete this DTTM Student Profile and a Buffalo Student Placement Application. Students will learn video production, direction, photography, graphic animation, journalism, creative writing, audio engineering, podcasting, broadcast production, and writing for media. Exploration of student interests and linking compatible career paths for students are pillars of this program. Students who successfully complete this 4-year program will graduate with an Industry Recognized CTE-Video Production Certification. Martin (Law & Order, RENT, The Irrational), Ani DiFranco (recording artist, founder of Righteous Babe Record label and "Babeville"), Claudine Ewing (WGRZ-TV), Pete Gallivan (WGRZ-TV), Stefan Mychajliw (former TV reporter for WGRZ/WKBW, former Public Relations Officer for BPS), Ramona Thomas-Reynolds (Principal of MLK Multicultural Institute), Jody Covington (Principal at Arts Academy), Carmen Intorre (percussionist/drummer, graduate of Juilliard School of Music), George Davis (current music teacher at Arts Academy), David Riffel (current media communications teacher at Arts Academy), Connor Graham (current theatre teacher at Arts Academy), Nicole Jones (current dance teacher at Arts Academy), and many more. The middle school program is highly ensemble oriented, with a focus on improving group work and concentration. High School Theatre Majors experience a rigorous, experiential program encompassing all areas of theatre arts; designed to provide progressive development as an actor and prepare students for college and career readiness. Focus is on improving group work and concentration continues at a higher level. BPO Side-by-Side concert with Arts Academy students. BAVPA Side by Side Concert Final Concert is Free & Opern to the Public BPO & BAVPA PARTNERSHIP The Buffalo Academy for Visual & Performing Arts joins the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for an in-depth, side-by-side experience for the music department students, while also providing a showcase for all the disciplines at BAVPA, including visual arts, media arts, drama and dance. Music students at BAVPA receive coaching sessions from BPO musicians leading up to the concert, and students from other departments prepare dramatic scenes, artwork, visuals and choreography that is incorporated into the program.
